Awake liposuction recovery, day by day
What the first fortnight actually looks like, including the days nobody warns you about and the point at which most people panic unnecessarily.

Recovery from awake liposuction is genuinely easier than most people expect, and there are two specific points where it feels worse than it is. Knowing where they are removes most of the anxiety.
Day 0 — the day itself
You walk out. You are sore in the way a very hard training session is sore, and the tumescent fluid is still draining, which is messy and completely normal. Someone else drives. You will feel oddly fine, and you should still go to bed.
Days 1 to 2 — leaking and stiffness
Drainage continues for about twenty-four to forty-eight hours. Towels on the bed. This is the least dignified part and the shortest.
Stiffness peaks here. Getting out of a chair is an event. Walk every hour anyway — short and frequent, not far. It matters for circulation and it genuinely reduces swelling.
Days 3 to 5 — back to a desk
Most people work from home on day three and go in on day five. Bruising is at its most colourful around day four, which is also, reliably, the day people message us convinced something is wrong. It is not. Deep bruising surfaces late.
Days 7 to 14 — the swelling plateau
Here is the point nobody warns you about. Somewhere in week two the treated area can feel firmer and look bigger than it did at day three. Fibrosis is setting in as tissue heals. It is temporary, it is universal, and it resolves with time and massage.
This is when a small number of patients conclude the procedure did not work. It is six weeks too early to conclude anything.
Weeks 3 to 6 — compression and training
Garment for four weeks full-time. Light training at three weeks, full at six. Lymphatic massage from week two helps the fibrosis settle faster and is worth the cost.
Months 3 to 6 — the real result
Final contour arrives somewhere in here. Photographs at three months against your baseline will show you a change the mirror has been hiding through daily familiarity, which is exactly why we take them under standardised lighting.
The two things that change your recovery most
Wear the garment, and walk. Neither is interesting advice, and between them they account for most of the difference between an easy fortnight and a hard one.
